The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has significantly revised upward the projected current account (CA) surplus indicators of Azerbaijan's balance of payments for 2026-2027.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this is stated in the IMF's October report "World Economic Outlook: Resilience Under Pressure, Urgent Choices." The expected CA surplus of Azerbaijan in 2026 will reach 11.3% of GDP, while in 2027 this indicator will amount to 9.8% of GDP.

Previously, the Monetary Fund had incorporated into its calculations Azerbaijan's current account surplus for 2026 at 9.7% of GDP, and for 2027 — only 5.4% of GDP.

For the first six months of 2026, the CA surplus of the country's balance of payments is estimated at 12.4% of GDP, which in absolute terms is equivalent to 4.738 billion dollars.

Based on the IMF's May forecasts, Azerbaijan's CA surplus of the balance of payments for the entire year of 2026 should amount to 7.572 billion dollars.

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan, in turn, in May of this year estimated the CA surplus for 2026 at 5.5 billion dollars, and for 2027 — at 4.4 billion dollars. The international rating agency Fitch Ratings forecasts this indicator for the current year at 10.9% of GDP, and for 2027 — at the level of 6.2%.
