Jeyleen: How an Azerbaijani Artist Creates Music Through Colors and Sounds## ChatGPT Prompts for Coding
In the world of the modern music industry, there are increasingly more artists who break stereotypes and offer a unique approach to creativity. One of such rising stars is Jeyleen, an Azerbaijani performer who currently lives in Switzerland and creates an amazing symbiosis of music, color, and everyday sounds.
Jeyleen is not only a musician but also a teacher at the prestigious Lausanne University of Hotel Business and Management. Having received a bachelor's degree with honors, she stayed at the university, where she teaches revenue management, financial analysis, and analytics in the hospitality industry. However, music became her true passion. She talked about this in an interview with Baku TV Ru.
From finance to music: an unusual creative journey
"I was simply lucky that during my childhood, my parents listened to completely different music. Thanks to this, since childhood, I discovered many genres and cultural influences," Jeyleen shares about her musical development.
Among the artists who influenced her work, she names Amy Winehouse, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Lorde, The Animals - indeed a diverse list reflecting the breadth of the singer's musical interests.
Defining her style, Jeyleen notes: "I learn and gain experience every day and gradually form my own sound. My music primarily develops in the genre of alternative pop-rock with elements of jazz and soul. And I try to add cinematic depth to it, which sometimes sounds in the tracks."
Synesthesia: when music takes on color
Jeyleen's uniqueness lies in her special perception of the world - she not only creates music but also handles its visualization herself, associating each composition with a certain color and mood.
"I am very much inspired by the sounds and colors that surround us every day, but which we usually don't pay attention to. I carefully observe my surroundings and try to incorporate these sounds and colors into my tracks," she explains.
This phenomenon resembles synesthesia - a neurological phenomenon where stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic experience in another sensory pathway. For Jeyleen, music literally has color and vice versa.
"When I write a song, I immediately associate it with some color. And when I have already formed a color, it's much easier for me to show the main color of the track in visual form," the artist shares.
Everyday sounds in music tracks
Jeyleen's process of creating music often begins with ordinary sounds that she records throughout the day. She gives examples: "In previous tracks, I recorded the sound of heels on the sidewalk, and I associated it with time. This sound reminded me of the color red, as if something very important is approaching. And the entire track began with this sound of heels."
"Another example is the sound of a broken glass vase. I associated this with the color blue. It all started with a completely heavenly blue color and gradually moved to dark blue until the moment when there is no blue left and there will only be darkness."
Such an approach makes her music multilayered and multidimensional, where each sound, each note has its own story and color palette.
Independent artist in the modern music industry
Jeyleen positions herself as an independent artist, not signed to a label. She independently creates compositions from the beginning to arrangement, and then works with a local Swiss producer to complete the tracks. Recently, she also began collaborating with a coach who helps her develop and manage the music project.
Reflecting on the advantages of an independent path in music, Jeyleen notes: "When a person works with a label, they will have much less opportunity to promote their own ideas. And this gives me more freedom. Of course, labels help give more vision to the world and audiences, but I think that starting as a self-taught artist is a big plus because I learn a lot on my own."
In today's world of social networks and digital platforms, Jeyleen actively uses all opportunities to promote her creativity: "These days, artists need to show themselves to the audience not only through music but also through branding. We are like a product for any listener; they need to understand what our world is, what makes up our musical world."
First releases and future plans
At the time of the interview, Jeyleen had released three tracks and was preparing a mini-album. Her music is available on all popular streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, where listeners can not only hear her compositions but also see the visual embodiment of each song.
