Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, warned the American side against ill-considered steps regarding Taiwan, which could lead to a serious deterioration in relations between the two world powers.

"The United States should approach the Taiwan issue carefully to avoid China and the US being drawn by a small number of separatists advocating for the island's independence into a dangerous situation of conflict and confrontation," said the Chinese leader.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to China Central Television, during the conversation, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of a balanced approach to this issue, which is sensitive for Beijing.
