What foreigners will not be able to obtain Russian citizenship?
The government commission approved the introduction of a ban on foreigners with an outstanding or unexpunged criminal record from obtaining Russian citizenship, temporary residence permits, or residence permits.
As reported by BAKU.WS, TASS reports this with reference to the materials of the commission meeting.
This concerns amendments to the law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation." It is noted that an outstanding or unexpunged criminal record discovered subsequently may serve as grounds for revoking the decision to grant citizenship, residence permit, or temporary residence permit.
However, citizens who received documents before the law comes into force will not be affected by the initiative.
In addition, the commission approved another bill according to which foreigners will be required to provide a certificate of the presence or absence of a criminal record when submitting documents to the migration service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Such a certificate should be issued by a competent authority of another state no earlier than three months before submitting an application in Russia.
