Ukraine may establish space forces

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has created a space policy department, which will organize interaction between state and private companies, as well as scientists with defense forces, and will contribute to the creation of space forces.

As BAKU.WS reports with reference to local media, this was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization Ekaterina Chernogorenko.

"We have a law on space activities, which states that the Ministry of Defense should form policy in the field of military space. This is not only the purchase of innovative solutions from engineers, this is not only creating a community so that the best solutions come to Ukraine, but also the creation of space forces," she said.

According to Chernogorenko, the defense department intends to become the main customer in Ukraine for space technology, products and services. And this department should unite state and private institutions, scientists in the space industry for interaction with the defense forces.

She added that by 2030, Ukraine plans to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as a system for air raid alerts and space monitoring.
