US President Donald Trump suggested that he might pay himself $1 billion in compensation on behalf of the US government for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) search of his private residence Mar-a-Lago (Florida). He added that the received funds would be directed to charity.

This is reported by BAKU.WS with reference to TASS.

"You know, I filed a lawsuit and I'm winning the case. There's only one problem: I'm the one who has to settle it. In other words, I file a lawsuit, and I'm the one who has to settle it. So, maybe I'll give myself $1 billion and allocate everything to charitable foundations. Reasonable, isn't it," he said on December 19 during his speech in Rocky Mount (North Carolina).

"This has never happened before. Donald Trump is suing the United States. Donald Trump becomes president, and now Donald Trump has to settle the lawsuit," he added. "Although, maybe I shouldn't give it to charity. Maybe I should keep the money for myself. Many people say I should do that. No, I don't want to," he laughed.

"But isn't this a strange situation? I have to make a deal and negotiate with myself," Trump lamented.

In October, The New York Times reported that Trump intends to demand around $230 million in compensation from the US Department of Justice for federal investigations the department conducted against him in the past. According to the publication, Trump filed two administrative complaints in 2023 and 2024 for violation of his rights, including during the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as in the case of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US elections.

Administrative complaints, the newspaper notes, are technically not lawsuits, and are first reviewed by the US Department of Justice for the possibility of settling differences out of court.
