Trump commented on the shooting near the White House
US President Donald Trump personally confirmed that the man who opened fire on Sunday near the White House was neutralized by Secret Service agents. In his post published on the social media platform Truth Social, the American leader stated that the assailant died following a shootout with Secret Service agents that occurred at the gates of the residence.
Trump also expressed gratitude to the agency's personnel for their professional actions.
As a reminder, earlier on Sunday the US Secret Service reported an incident that occurred near the White House. A man at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street pulled a weapon from his bag and opened fire. Law enforcement returned fire, resulting in the attacker sustaining fatal injuries. A bystander was also wounded during the shootout.
