The oldest woman in the world lived for 117 years: the secrets of her longevity revealed
At the age of 117, Maria Branyas was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person on the planet. According to researchers, her longevity is explained not only by luck, reports Fox News.
Shortly before her death on August 19, 2024, scientists analyzed genetic samples to identify factors that influenced her lifespan. They found that Branyas' biological age was younger than her chronological age. The woman did not suffer from serious illnesses: apart from hearing problems and some limited mobility, her health was in order, and her mind was absolutely clear.
Experts noted that her genes lacked variants associated with the risk of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, or metabolic disorders. At the same time, a large amount of Bifidobacterium bacteria was found in her, which is associated with regular consumption of yogurt. Researchers do not rule out that this may have played a role in her longevity. The picture was complemented by low levels of "bad" cholesterol, high levels of "good" cholesterol, as well as the absence of smoking or alcohol consumption habits.
