Iran called US strikes a violation of the UN Charter and the memorandum of understanding

The US strikes on Iran constituted a violation of the UN Charter and the terms of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US, Iran's Foreign Ministry stated.

"These brutal attacks, targeting Iran's coastal observation facilities, represent a clear violation of paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the UN Charter, as well as a direct violation of paragraph one of the ceasefire memorandum," the Iranian Foreign Ministry's statement, published on Saturday on the diplomatic agency's Telegram channel, reads.

The document notes that simultaneously Israel, "in coordination with the US, carried out an attack on Lebanon, which also constitutes a clear violation of paragraph one of the aforementioned memorandum."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with all its might," the statement reads.

It emphasizes that Iran's retaliatory strikes were defensive in nature. "It is obvious that the responsibility for the consequences of the current situation lies with the aggressor and violator of obligations — the US — as well as with those who in any way facilitate the US's aggressive actions against Iran," the document states.

Iran's Foreign Ministry called on all states on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf not to allow their territory and resources to be used for carrying out aggressive actions against Iran.
