Pope Francis's Friend Broke Centuries-Old Protocol at Farewell Ceremony

During the farewell ceremony at St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican, Pope Francis's 40-year-old friend, Franco-Argentine nun Geneviève Jeanningros, broke protocol by approaching the pontiff's coffin.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to mailonline, the 81-year-old nun was allowed to enter the area traditionally reserved only for cardinals and clergy due to her close relationship with the late Pope.
Unable to hold back tears, the nun prayed silently at the coffin, saying goodbye to the pontiff.
It is worth noting that Pope Francis last visited Jeanningros in July 2024 in Ostia.
