Iran has accelerated construction of a secret military facility under Mount Kolang in Isfahan province in the central part of the country in recent months.

This claim was made by The Washington Post newspaper, citing satellite images.

According to the newspaper, construction of the facility, "the purpose of which is still unknown," accelerated after US strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. One of these facilities, in Natanz, is located near Mount Kolang, the publication notes. WP explains that work there has been ongoing since 2020.

WP cites data according to which the Iranian leadership previously reported that the specified facility could be used for the production of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. At the same time, experts, whose assessments the newspaper cites, believe that the facility could be used directly for uranium enrichment or its storage.

On the night of June 13, Israel began a military operation against Iran. The Islamic Republic carried out a retaliatory attack. The US entered the conflict on June 22, striking Iranian nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordo. The next day, Iran attacked Al Udeid, the largest US air base in the Middle East, in Qatar. After this, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to establish a ceasefire. It came into effect on June 24.

In 2025, five rounds of negotiations between Iran and the US on the nuclear dossier ended without result due to the start of Israel's military operation against the Islamic republic and US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Simultaneously, representatives of the "E3" countries conducted talks with Tehran, but were unable to mediate in concluding a new agreement on the Iranian atom.
