Media: Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have restored access for American military to their bases
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted restrictions on the use of their bases and airspace by the U.S. military, which had been imposed after the start of the American operation to open the Strait of Hormuz.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. and Saudi Arabian officials.
These decisions open the possibility for the U.S. to resume "Project Freedom" in the coming days, the publication notes.
According to American officials, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump intends to resume the operation to escort commercial vessels with naval and air support, which was suspended this week. It is not yet clear when this could happen, although Pentagon officials have stated that it could occur as early as this week.
According to the publication, Trump suspended Project Freedom on Tuesday evening after a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, who expressed concerns about escalation. Meanwhile, the U.S. president himself later stated on social media that he had agreed to pause the initiative 36 hours after its launch at the request of Pakistan and a number of other countries.
