Magnetic storm on Earth continues for about 30 hours
A magnetic storm continues on Earth, which has been lasting for about 30 hours already. This was reported by the solar astronomy laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in their Telegram channel.
According to scientists' forecasts, the current situation on the Sun and in near-Earth space does not allow us to speak of an imminent end to the geomagnetic storm. At the same time, there remains a small probability of the storm weakening from the "red" to the "yellow" level.
"Despite the possible reduction of the storm to a 'yellow' level in the coming hours, the situation on the Sun and in near-Earth space is not yet conducive to normalization. Moreover, for the first time in many days, the forecast for the next day includes a probability of more than 50% of the formation of the highest X-class flares on the Sun," the message notes.
Scientists also report that the speed of the solar wind near Earth has increased from approximately 400 km/s to 700 km/s, and the plasma temperature has tripled - from 100 to 300 thousand degrees.
