First winter magnetic storm: what awaits Earth tonight?
On Wednesday, December 3, the Earth is expecting its first "winter" magnetic storm.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by scientists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
It is noted that the geomagnetic fluctuations will be caused by several factors - the appearance of another coronal hole on the Sun and a plasma ejection following a class X flare that occurred on December 1.
It is expected that the disturbance of the magnetic field will likely not exceed the average G2 level, but may last quite long. The storm is predicted to "calm down" only by the weekend.
