Russian-Ukrainian conflict: what is the situation in the Pokrovsk direction?

According to the latest data from the Russian military leadership, the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region of Ukraine has come under Russian control.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited one of the command posts, where he was informed about the progress of operations in the directions of Pokrovsk and Volchansk. Moscow claims that establishing control over Pokrovsk has strategic importance, as it allows for complete interception of logistics routes in the Donetsk direction and forms a new defense line.

However, Kyiv does not confirm this information. The Ukrainian command states that the battle for Pokrovsk continues, and reports about the complete loss of control over the city do not correspond to reality. Currently, the statements from both sides differ sharply. This usually happens in cases when a city is not yet completely lost. In such situations, fighting often takes place for individual neighborhoods, and the sides try to gain informational advantage.

It should not be forgotten that the strategic importance of Pokrovsk is not only related to its geographical position. If the city comes completely under Russian control, it could weaken Ukraine's supply line on the Donetsk front, and Moscow will be able to strengthen defensive positions in the region.

The humanitarian situation in Pokrovsk, where intense fighting has been continuing for a long time, also causes serious concern. A significant part of the infrastructure is destroyed, and civilians are being evacuated to safe areas. The longer such urban fighting continues, the deeper the humanitarian crisis becomes. The main problem for both sides now is not only the military situation but also the fate of the civilian population and the increasing damage to infrastructure.
