Iranian ballistic missile shot down in the sky over Turkey
NATO air defense systems intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile in the skies over Turkey.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated in a announcement by Turkey's Ministry of National Defense.
According to the ministry, the missile was launched from Iranian territory and, passing through the airspace of Iraq and Syria, headed toward Turkish skies. The threat was detected in a timely manner and intercepted by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The ministry clarified that the munition fragment that fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay province belongs to an interceptor projectile of the air defense system used after the missile was destroyed in midair.
There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident.
Turkey's Ministry of Defense emphasized that Ankara reserves the right to respond to any hostile actions directed against the country, while calling on the parties to refrain from steps that could lead to further escalation of the conflict.
