Pakistani court sentences former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison on second Toshakhana corruption case.

This was reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Geo News.

According to the information, the case involves alleged fraud with state gifts that the former first couple received from the Saudi Arabian government in 2021.

The court sentenced Khan and Bushra Bibi to 10 years in prison for "criminal breach of trust," and to 7 years for various violations of the anti-corruption law. In addition, each of the convicted persons was fined 16.4 million Pakistani rupees (about 60 thousand US dollars).

The case was initiated in July 2024. The investigation claims that the former spouses sold valuable state gifts, including expensive watches, as well as diamond and gold jewelry, without transferring them to Toshakhana - the official state repository of gifts.

Note that in July of this year, a court in Pakistan sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison on the same corruption charge. Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, was sentenced to 7 years in prison. The politician has been in prison since August 2023 on various charges, including corruption and abuse of power, incitement to violence against the state.
