Archaeologists found a lost Mayan city in the jungles of Mexico

A team of archaeologists discovered the ruins of the Sak-Bahlan fortress, known as the "Land of the White Jaguar," in the vicinity of Campeche in Mexico, which was considered the last stronghold of the Maya Indians. This is stated on the website of the Mexican government.
It is noted that Dutch archaeologist Jan de Vos tried to find the fortress in the Yucatan jungle using modern equipment back in 1999, but unsuccessfully. A quarter of a century later, a team of specialists from the USA, Japan, and Mexico continued the search. Josuje Losada-Toledo from the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico calculated four possible routes taking into account the terrain, water bodies, vegetation, and the average load that a person can carry.
As a result of aerial photography, an area corresponding to the descriptions of the ruins of the Maya city was discovered. According to the excavation leader Luke Auld-Thomas from Northern Arizona University, almost 6,700 ancient structures hidden in the shadow of lianas were found in the vicinity of Campeche.
