Araghchi called the US blockade of Iranian ports an act of war

The blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz by the United States Armed Forces is a violation of the temporary ceasefire.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote about this on the social media platform X.

"The blockade of Iranian ports is an act of war and, therefore, a violation of the ceasefire. Striking a commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is an even more serious violation.

Iran knows how to neutralize restrictions, how to defend its interests, and how to withstand pressure," the post reads.

As a reminder, on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran and struck a number of cities. The operation led to an escalation in the Middle East and the involvement of all Persian Gulf countries in the conflict, as well as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, the United States, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026, which expires on the night of April 21-22.

The parties attempted to hold negotiations in Pakistan to settle the conflict; however, the first round, held on April 11-12, did not yield any results. A new round of negotiations may take place in the coming days.

The situation around the Strait of Hormuz, the blockade of which triggered a global energy crisis, remains uncertain. Both sides announce its reopening at varying intervals; however, shipping in the region has effectively been halted.
