Salary Increases in Azerbaijan: What Did the Minister Say?

In all social packages implemented to date, decisions have been made to increase the minimum wage. As I have already noted, over the past period, its amount has increased 3.1 times - from 130 to 400 manats.

As reported by APA, this was stated by Azerbaijan's Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev.

According to him, the minimum wage is essentially a universal social standard.

"The legislation does not allow the payment of wages below the minimum level to persons working full-time. The application of this standard is monitored by us on a virtually weekly basis. The 'Labor and Employment' subsystem provides this opportunity. This process is carried out entirely in electronic form.

During monitoring activities, when cases of wage payments below the minimum are identified, we send appropriate explanatory notifications to employers and apply control measures. The minimum wage standard is relevant for both the public and private sectors," the minister noted.

The head of the ministry added that within the framework of the latest social reform package, the increase in the minimum wage covered approximately 700,000 people.

Anar Aliyev also spoke about the wage increase mechanism: "In the public sector, there are grades under a unified tariff scale. An increase in the amount at the lowest grade affects all other grades. In the private sector, the mechanism is, in principle, roughly the same. Overall, the increase in the minimum wage has a positive impact on the growth of average monthly incomes of the country's population."
