A strong earthquake has occurred in yet another country
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in the western part of the island of New Guinea in Indonesia.
This was reported by the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The tremor occurred on Friday at 02:51 Baku time. Its epicenter was located approximately 177 kilometers southwest of the city of Jayapura, situated on the northern coast of the Indonesian part of the island.
Specialists assessed the intensity of the shaking at the epicenter as "very strong."
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey also determined the earthquake's magnitude at 5.7. According to American seismologists, the hypocenter was at a depth of 53.9 kilometers.
