The Ideal Weight for a Long Life Identified

According to the latest data presented by nutrition experts, body mass index (BMI) plays a significant role in predicting human life expectancy.
Russian nutritionist Olga Romashina, in an interview with the publication "Vechernyaya Moskva," emphasized that a BMI in the range from 18.5 to 24.9 is considered optimal for longevity. Notably, among long-lived individuals, this indicator often approaches the upper limit of the normal range.
"This may indicate that a slight excess weight can be beneficial for health," Romashina noted.
To calculate BMI, the following formula is used: weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. For example, with a weight of 70 kilograms and a height of 1.75 meters, the BMI will be 22.86.
However, the expert warns that BMI is not always an accurate indicator of health. Athletes with developed musculature often have this indicator exceeding the norm. When assessing overall health, it is necessary to take into account individual characteristics of the body, level of physical activity, and the presence of harmful habits.
