Named the type of cosmetics dangerous for eye health

Australian ophthalmologist Jacqueline Beltz has warned about the serious danger posed by waterproof cosmetics. According to information provided to the Daily Mail, regular use of such products can lead to the development of dry eye syndrome – an unpleasant condition accompanied by burning, tingling, redness, and deterioration of vision.
Dr. Beltz categorically does not recommend her patients use waterproof mascara. The specialist emphasizes that it is precisely the components that ensure makeup durability that cause significant harm to eye health.
"These ingredients have powerful drying properties which, although they make cosmetics long-lasting, simultaneously dry out the tear film," explained the ophthalmologist.
The tear film is a thin layer of fluid covering the eye's surface, which not only maintains the necessary level of moisture but also protects sensitive tissues from negative external influences.
According to Beltz, waterproof cosmetics pose a particular danger to people with sensitive eyes.
"The second reason to avoid waterproof cosmetics is the difficulty of removal. To wash off such makeup, stronger products and increased rubbing are needed, which can irritate the eyes," added the ophthalmologist.
Canadian optometrist Julian Proscia joined the Australian specialist's opinion, also urging people to give up cosmetic products with increased durability.
"Although cosmetics in general can cause dryness and eye irritation, waterproof makeup is the worst option. It is more likely to provoke meibomian gland dysfunction," noted the doctor.
Meibomian gland dysfunction is a common condition in which the production of tear components is disrupted. This leads to rapid evaporation of moisture from the eye's surface and intensification of dryness symptoms.
