The common seasoning turned out to be associated with reduced chronic pain
Adding turmeric to the diet may alleviate chronic pain in adults.
As new research shows, including turmeric in daily nutrition can reduce the severity of chronic pain in people over 40 years of age.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the journal Nutrients, 30 adults with moderate chronic pain participated in a randomized crossover clinical study. Participants received turmeric in culinary familiar doses (300 mg, 1 g, or 3 g) for 21 days, either separately or in combination with black pepper, and pain levels were recorded three times a day via text messages.
The results showed that by the end of the third week, the average pain indicators significantly decreased compared to the baseline. Moreover, the addition of black pepper and increasing the dose of turmeric within normal culinary limits did not provide additional effects.
The authors note that the pilot study was conducted on a small sample, predominantly middle-aged and older women. Nevertheless, the data indicate the potential benefit of common food spices as a simple and accessible way to support chronic pain management strategies.
