Scientists have identified regions where dementia is most common

A research group led by the University of California, San Francisco conducted a large-scale study on the prevalence of dementia in various regions of the USA. The researchers used the Mid-Atlantic region as a baseline.
The results proved to be quite revealing. In the Southeast of the North Atlantic region, the frequency of senile dementia cases exceeded the baseline level by a full 25%. The Northwest and the Rocky Mountain area also demonstrated alarming statistics - here the dementia rates were higher by 23%. The Southern states showed an excess of 18%, and the Southwest, including California, - by 13%. Even the Northeast of the country, where New York is located, demonstrated an excess of the baseline level by 7%.
It is particularly important to note that the identified regional differences persisted even after adjusting the data to account for factors such as age, racial background, and the presence of cardiovascular diseases. Notably, this pattern was observed not only in urban centers but also in rural areas.
