Lack of sleep increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, said therapist Yana Kochetkova. According to her, chronic sleep deprivation interferes with normal brain cleansing and can contribute to the accumulation of dangerous substances.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Gazeta.Ru", one of the key functions of sleep is the removal of metabolic products from the brain. The brain works actively during the day, and during this time metabolic waste accumulates in it. With insufficient sleep duration, the doctor noted, there is an accumulation of amyloid protein, which over time can lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease.

In addition, lack of sleep negatively affects the immune system. The production and concentration of active immune cells responsible for fighting bacteria, viruses and tumor cells decreases. At the same time, the level of the stress hormone cortisol increases, which further suppresses the body's immune defense and worsens resistance to infections.

The specialist also drew attention to the fact that in modern life, melatonin production is often disrupted due to high illumination. As a result, the body's biological rhythms become desynchronized, a person experiences increased stress and chronic fatigue, and usual loads become harder to bear.

To improve sleep quality, the doctor recommends maintaining regular physical activity, following a regular diet and avoiding overeating, especially in the evening. 30-60 minutes before sleep, it is worth dimming the light in the room, reducing noise levels and refraining from using gadgets, concluded Kochetkova.
