Named diet that reduces fat accumulation in the liver
The Scandinavian (Nordic) diet can simultaneously improve blood sugar control and reduce fatty deposits in the liver. This conclusion was reached by scientists from Uppsala University, who published the results of their research in the journal Nature Communications.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Nature Communications, the study involved 150 people with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. The volunteers were divided into three groups, each following a separate diet regimen. The most pronounced effect was demonstrated by the Nordic diet, which is based on whole grains, vegetables, berries, fish, and rapeseed oil with minimal saturated fat content.
During the year, participants in this group saw liver fat content decrease by more than 20%, and blood glucose levels improved significantly. More than half of the volunteers showed complete disappearance of signs of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Scientists note that the effect cannot be explained solely by weight loss. Analysis showed that almost half of the positive changes were related specifically to the quality of the diet, not weight loss.
The authors also emphasized that the diet proved relatively easy to follow: participants did not restrict calorie intake, yet still lost weight and showed improvement in metabolic indicators.
