Doctors explained why your legs might fail after energy drinks
Doctors explained why energy drink fans may face serious leg problems - up to muscle weakness, spasms, and temporary loss of sensitivity.
As reported by BAKU.WS, therapist Alexandra Lelyakova told Life.ru that the reason lies in the combination of stimulants, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance. Caffeine, taurine, and guarana sharply increase blood pressure and pulse rate, which worsens blood flow in the lower extremities. Against the background of dehydration and mineral loss, cramps and muscle weakness occur. Additional danger comes from individual intolerance or allergies to components - in such cases, symptoms can be much more serious. At the first alarming sensations, the doctor recommends lying down, elevating your legs, drinking water, and doing light stretching. If there is no improvement, you need to see a doctor immediately.
Pediatrician Evgenia Pantyukhina also emphasizes that large volumes of energy drinks can lead to caffeine overdose. This causes sharp fluctuations in blood pressure, arrhythmia, insomnia, anxiety, and even panic attacks. Constant stimulation of the nervous system over time contributes to mental disorders, depression, and aggressive behavior. In addition, energy drinks negatively affect the stomach, liver, and intestines, and with frequent use increase the risk of obesity and diabetes. Teenagers are especially vulnerable - they have a significantly higher probability of damage to the heart and nervous system.
"Energy drinks do not give the body any 'additional energy.' They only deplete internal reserves, exhausting the person. This is important to remember for young people who often use such 'doping' to increase productivity during studies or feel more alert at parties and night events," Pantyukhina concluded.
