Cosmetologist revealed the terrible side effects of a new beauty product

"Tan activator" with the substance melanotan-2 increases the risk of cancer development. Cosmetologist Victoria Zhukova told "Gazeta.Ru" about this.
"Currently, a 'tan activator' with the active substance melanotan-2, which is not registered as a medical product in our country, is actively gaining popularity. It's a spray used on the nasal mucosa in hopes of getting the perfect color. But instead, it causes stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, abundant appearance of moles, and risk of cancer development," the doctor stated.
The cosmetologist added that the product can also negatively affect the central nervous system. Zhukova pointed out that all photosensitizing products should be prescribed by a qualified doctor.
The expert explained that tanning is always associated with micro-damage to DNA in cells. Gradually, this damage accumulates and can lead to premature aging, reduced elasticity, appearance of wrinkles and pigment spots. A more serious consequence is an increased risk of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
"Many people think that gradual or 'safe' tanning is not harmful, but any change in skin tone is already damage. Even if the skin doesn't burn, ultraviolet rays still affect deeply at the cellular level," the doctor explained.
Zhukova stated that the most beneficial thing for skin is to protect it throughout the year.
"During summer and when staying in hot countries, one should avoid the sun during its peak activity hours - usually from 11 AM to 4 PM. During this time, the risk of burns and skin damage is especially high. It's necessary to drink sufficient water and use modern products with antioxidant protection and SPF, which contain not only filters but also ingredients for skin restoration and hydration," the cosmetologist explained.
The doctor clarified that it's necessary to apply SPF of at least 30(50+++) 15-20 minutes before going outside and reapply it every 2 hours, especially after swimming or heavy sweating. Zhukova noted that sunscreen is needed not only for fair skin but also for olive and dark skin.
The cosmetologist also stated that SPF should be applied even on cloudy days, as up to 80% of UV rays pass through clouds and affect the skin everywhere - in the city, at the dacha, and while driving.
Additionally, Zhukova explained that SPF doesn't completely block tanning. According to her, skin color still changes, but the skin darkens slowly and more safely - without burns and stress to the cells.
The doctor also debunked the myth that vitamin D is not produced if you avoid tanning.
"A short stay in the sun (10-20 minutes) is enough to get the daily requirement of vitamin D. And prolonged exposure without SPF is harmful, not beneficial," concluded Zhukova.
