Telegram and WhatsApp named leaders in number of cybercrimes in messaging apps

Most crimes using social networks and messengers are committed through Telegram and WhatsApp. This was reported by the department for combating illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"Analysis of statistical data shows that today a significant number of crimes are committed using popular messengers and social networks. The leaders are foreign messengers Telegram and WhatsApp," the department stated.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, over the past week, 414 crimes were committed using Telegram, and 313 using WhatsApp. "For comparison, the number of crimes committed using the VKontakte social network was 19, using the Odnoklassniki social network - 1 crime, and no crimes were recorded using the MAX messenger," the ministry reported.
