Low scores on graduation exams don't prevent getting a diploma - expert explains

After the announcement of graduation exam results, graduates and their parents again had concerns: will students be left without a diploma due to low scores?

Educational expert Ramin Nuraliyev explained in an interview with Oxu.az that such concerns are groundless. According to him, the results of graduation exams do not affect receiving a diploma.

"The law 'On Education' does not have a clause that provides for refusal to issue a diploma due to poor exam results. This is a myth left over from Soviet times," he noted.

The expert emphasized that depriving a student of a year of education is only possible with systematic absences and by decision of the teaching council. But even in the case of unsatisfactory results on graduation exams, the final grade in the diploma is formed based on the annual grades for grades 10-11.

For example, if a student received a "5" in grade 10, a "4" in grade 11, and a "2" on the exam, the arithmetic mean of these grades will go into the diploma. And the school is obligated to issue an education document, regardless of the exam results.

"If there are disputed situations, parents can contact the State Agency for Preschool and General Education or the Ministry of Science and Education," added Nuraliyev.
