Which Baku metro station names may be changed? - LIST

The Baku Metro is not only one of the main transport arteries of the city but also an important infrastructure facility reflecting the historical and cultural identity of the capital.

Changes in the social, political, and cultural life of the city over time are also reflected in the names of metro stations.

In connection with the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" in Azerbaijan, new names are planned to be assigned to a number of geographical objects and infrastructure units. According to the approved Action Plan, metro stations are also expected to be renamed.

Transport expert Rauf Agamirzaev commented to Baku.ws: "Based on global experience, such decisions are made based on surveys. Relevant competitions and surveys are conducted in society, and the name is chosen by majority principle. It is preferable to choose names that correspond to the locality."

Among the possible changes according to the expert:

- Station B4 could be named after the nearby Azerbaijan Medical University

- "Koroglu" could become "Olympic" due to its proximity to the Baku Olympic Stadium

- Possible renaming of stations "Khalqlar Dostlugu", "Ulduz" and "Bakmil"
