It has become known when the formation of Alzheimer's disease begins
Belgian researchers have discovered that a rare form of Alzheimer's disease begins to develop long before the first symptoms appear - and the moment of its onset can be predicted using genetic data.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this is written in "Gazeta.Ru".
It is now possible to determine in advance at what age a person may show the first signs of early Alzheimer's disease. This became possible thanks to the work of Belgian specialists who studied hereditary mutations associated with this rare neurodegenerative disease.
The early form of Alzheimer's disease is a rare but severe condition that develops in relatively young people and is inherited. Scientists focused on three genes - APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 - mutations in which can trigger pathological processes in the brain.
The analysis showed: different mutations lead to the development of the disease at different ages, as if someone is starting a biological clock. Based on this data, a prognostic model was created that allows calculating exactly when a person will begin to experience memory deterioration, confusion of thoughts, and other symptoms.
In addition, the study showed that changing the balance of certain proteins in the brain can delay the development of the disease by several years. This provides a chance for early diagnosis and timely intervention when symptoms have not yet manifested.
