Guterres stated that the war in the Middle East has spiraled out of control
UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the war in the Middle East has spiraled out of control and gone too far, and the world faces the threat of a broader conflict, growing human suffering, and a global economic shock.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was reported by TASS.
"The conflict has gone beyond even what leaders considered unthinkable. This has gone too far. It is time to stop climbing the escalation ladder and start climbing the diplomatic ladder, returning to full respect for international law," Guterres stated.
The UN Secretary-General addressed separate messages to key parties of the conflict. He called on the United States and Israel to immediately stop the war, urged Iran to halt attacks on neighboring countries that are not parties to the conflict, and also demanded a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.
The Secretary-General particularly noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is "choking" supplies of oil, gas, and fertilizers at a critical moment of the global planting season, and that the consequences of the war hit the poorest and most vulnerable people on the planet the hardest.
