In Azerbaijan, a 13-year-old girl became a mother

In Aghjabadi, a 13-year-old girl was engaged to a 23-year-old man. According to an agreement between the families, the official marriage was planned after the girl reached the age of 18.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Musavat.com, after the engagement, an intimate relationship occurred between the girl and the man. When it was discovered that the girl was pregnant, the families organized a wedding celebration at home with close relatives.

During the pregnant girl's visit to the hospital for an examination, doctors reported this case to the police. Until that moment, the families had tried to keep the situation secret.

A criminal case was initiated on this fact. During the judicial investigation, the couple had a child.

The 13-year-old Guler (name changed), recognized as the victim, and her family did not file a complaint. The birth of their child was also taken into account as a mitigating circumstance.

By court decision, Shahriyar (name changed) was given a suspended sentence. Shahriyar, who had been in custody, was released and placed under police supervision.
