Debunked popular myth about breast cancer

Breast cancer is not always accompanied by tumor development, which is why regular self-diagnosis may be an ineffective measure for protecting against the disease. This was explained to the Daily Mail by surgical oncologist Lauren Ramsey (USA).
The doctor noted that over the past 20 years, the incidence of breast cancer among young women (under 50 years of age) has increased by 10%. Scientists attribute these changes to alcohol abuse, artificial sweeteners, and ultra-processed foods. The latter represent food produced in industrial conditions (in factories or fast-food establishments).
According to the expert, in many cases breast cancer cannot be detected independently. The fact is that this disease does not always develop tumors that can be detected by palpation.
"Changes in skin color, nipple discharge, swelling, barely noticeable pain, and inflammation of the axillary lymph nodes can also be signs. Other symptoms include changes in the shape or size of the breast," clarified Dr. Ramsey.
The surgeon added that mammography is also not a 100% effective method for detecting breast cancer.
"The denser the breast, the more difficult it is to detect abnormalities during mammography. Women with this characteristic are recommended to undergo comprehensive examinations," concluded the medical professional.
