CANNES, France - May 10, 2025 - Legendary actor Robert De Niro is set to receive an honorary Palme d"Or at the Cannes Film Festival, marking a powerful tribute to his remarkable five-decade journey with the iconic event.

At 81, De Niro"s relationship with Cannes is as deep as it is historic. His breakthrough at the festival came in 1976, when he appeared in two competing films: Martin Scorsese"s Taxi Driver and Bernardo Bertolucci"s 1900. Taxi Driver stunned audiences and walked away with the Palme d"Or, launching De Niro into international stardom.

Over the years, the Oscar-winning actor returned to Cannes with a string of cinematic milestones:
The King of Comedy (1983)
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
The Mission (1986), which also won the Palme d"Or, making De Niro one of the few actors to star in two Palme-winning films.

Though he co-founded the Tribeca Festival in New York, De Niro"s bond with Cannes has remained strong. In 2011, he served as president of the jury that awarded Terrence Malick"s The Tree of Life. In 2023, he returned once again with Martin Scorsese for the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon.

"I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes," De Niro said in a recent statement. "Especially now, when there"s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together - storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends. It"s like coming home."
