The UN International Court of Justice rejected Armenia's claims

On April 25, 2025, the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague rejected a number of Armenia's claims regarding the treatment of Ruben Vardanyan and 15 other persons of Armenian origin who are currently on trial in the Baku Military Court for crimes committed as a result of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, as well as during and after the Patriotic War of 2020.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the court, having considered the response of the Azerbaijani side and relevant evidence in the case on the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, decided not to request additional information and not to require an independent investigation or expert opinion regarding the conditions of detention of prisoners.

"It is known that persons of Armenian origin appearing before the court are treated in accordance with all applicable standards of Azerbaijan and international law, and they have been repeatedly visited by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan.

The court's decision is also consistent with the recent conclusion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which confirmed that Ruben Vardanyan is being held in custody on charges of crimes related to serious threats to the national security, public safety, and public order of Azerbaijan.

This decision once again demonstrates that Armenia's unfounded demands aimed at disrupting ongoing judicial processes and diverting attention from the illegal actions of the regime illegally established by Armenia in the previously occupied territories will not yield any results," the statement says.
