Fikret Sadikhov: The past year has proven that Azerbaijan's steps are aimed at lasting peace
The year that has passed since the Washington Agreement has proven that Azerbaijan was absolutely right, and the steps it took on this path were aimed at achieving complete peace and ensuring security in the region.
Political scientist Fikret Sadykhov stated this in a comment to Report.
He noted that after liberating its lands from occupation, Azerbaijan was interested in restoring peace in the region.
"After restoring sovereignty, we took the first steps toward peace by implementing a number of projects. Armenia also realized that it was dealing with a major player in the region. We confronted it with a forced choice. The document initialed in Washington a year ago shows that the steps we took in both the military and diplomatic spheres fully corresponded to reality and truth," he said.
The political scientist emphasized that the role of US President Donald Trump in the Washington agreement is very significant. "Nevertheless, the core diplomacy that we conducted, the very important steps taken by the head of state, led to the initialing of the peace document. That is, we were able to prove to them that we stand for fundamental peace and security. Furthermore, if Armenia does not want to remain in a deadlock any longer, it must choose the right path. Over the past year, we have seen that they have also taken certain steps. But all the issues that Armenia must resolve must be resolved," he said.
