Nikol Pashinyan: Armenia and Azerbaijan recognized each other's sovereignty
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the European Political Community (EPC) format played an important role in the settlement between Yerevan and Baku, recalling the mutual recognition of each other's territorial integrity by the parties at the Prague summit in 2022.
As Report informs, he stated this while speaking at the EPC summit in Armenia.
"The EPC format is of extraordinary importance. It played an important role in establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 2022, on the sidelines of the first EPC summit in Prague, a quadrilateral meeting was organized at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel. There, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and I made a fateful decision. Yerevan and Baku recognized each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration," N. Pashinyan said.
According to him, this decision created a real opportunity for achieving a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, defined the architecture of future peace, and became a step toward organizing the historic Washington Peace Summit in August 2025.
"There, at the White House, with the support and participation of U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and I adopted a peace declaration. The American leader also signed it as a witness. In the presence of the three leaders, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed an agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations," the prime minister recalled.
N. Pashinyan also touched upon the TRIPP project ("Trump Route"), noting that it will contribute to the unblocking of regional routes and the strengthening of global supply chains.
"Now we have peace with Azerbaijan. For two years there have been no casualties as a result of shootings. This is an unprecedented period since independence," he stated, emphasizing that the parties continue to work on the institutionalization of peace.
