The topic of the European Union's recently increased interest in the Central Asian region, which for many decades remained outside the spectrum of attention of the Old World, continues to appear on pages, screens, and media broadcasts. Of course, the attention of European politicians, and along with them analysts, to this region was due to a number of geopolitical factors that crystallized at the beginning of the current decade.

This is stated in the latest issue of the analytical YouTube project Caliber.

"Among these, we can confidently highlight, firstly, Azerbaijan's complete restoration of its territorial integrity, which ended the long-standing conflict and thereby brought the region closer to eliminating the geopolitical barrier in Western Zangezur and opening the historical route along the Araz River that had remained closed all these decades.

Secondly, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 and the bloody war that has continued since then, which destroyed the configuration of European security that had been holding together, albeit poorly, for many years since the end of the Cold War.

And finally, the third factor that increased Brussels' attention to the Central Asian region was the landmark victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential election and the unexpected and rather sharp change in the tone of the transatlantic dialogue between the Old and New Worlds that followed immediately after, as well as tariff wars.

All these factors led to increased attention of the European Union to Central Asia, and the first factor, that is, the de-occupation of Karabakh, as we have already noted, removed long-standing obstacles and created conditions for strengthening ties between the West and this part of the East," the material states.
