Annual transit of Kazakhstani oil from Kashagan field via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline will amount to 240,000 tons.

This is reported by Baku.ws with reference to the press service of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

"SOCAR begins transit of oil from Kazakhstan's Kashagan field via the BTC pipeline. The first batch of Kashagan oil of about 6,000 tons, loaded onto a tanker at Aktau port on January 25, arrived at the Sangachal terminal on January 27, from where it will be transported to the port of Ceyhan via BTC. This became possible after the signing of an agreement on January 15, 2025, between SOCAR Midstream Operations LLC [SOCAR subsidiary] and KMG Trading, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, for the transit of 240,000 tons of Kashagan oil per year," the information states.

As previously reported, the first batch was transported by the tanker Taraz, operated by the Kazakhstani company "KazMorTransFlot" [KMG subsidiary].

"The start of Kashagan oil transportation via BTC is not only a manifestation of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan but also serves to further strengthen cooperation between our countries," the statement emphasizes.

It should be noted that in November 2022, SOCAR and KMG signed an agreement for the transit of 1.5 million tons of oil per year from the Tengiz field.

In February 2024, the parties agreed on a phased increase in the volume of Kazakhstani oil transit through Azerbaijan's territory.

In March 2024, SOCAR and KMG signed an agreement on gradually increasing oil transit through Azerbaijan's territory to 2.2 million tons per year.
