Operations of chemical plants in Sumgayit suspended

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has temporarily suspended the operation of the "Ethylene-Polyethylene" plant and SOCAR Polymer enterprises located in Sumgayit.

As Report informs, the reason for this decision was a malfunction in the technological mode (gas flow meter) at the EP plant of the "Azerikimya" Production Association (a subsidiary of SOCAR).

"The failure affected not only the plant itself, but also SOCAR Polymer installations that are in the same technological chain with it," the company's statement notes.

According to the company, burning and smoke are observed at the flare units of the plants.

Currently, specialists are conducting preparatory work to resume the operations of the enterprises.
