President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence in the possibility of soon achieving a complete ceasefire in the east of the country. At a meeting with representatives of territorial communities in the Chernihiv region, he stated that agreements on ending the active phase of the conflict could be reached in the coming weeks or months.
"I believe this is quite realistic in the shortest possible time - perhaps in the coming weeks or months. The situation can develop in different ways, sometimes everything is resolved in a single moment, especially when it comes to ending the hot phase and a complete ceasefire," Zelensky noted.
The Ukrainian president's optimism is largely connected to the recent telephone conversation between the leaders of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. According to the Kremlin, on March 18, the presidents discussed the situation in Ukraine, measures to prevent escalation, and a number of other international issues. In particular, Putin supported Trump's proposal for the conflict parties to temporarily refrain from strikes on energy infrastructure facilities for a period of 30 days.
Additionally, according to White House information, the Russian and American leaders agreed to begin technical negotiations on implementing a ceasefire regime in the Black Sea, a complete cessation of hostilities, and establishing permanent peace.
