Ukraine named three "red lines" in Trump's peace plan
In the peace plan presented by the US, there are at least three points that are "red lines" for Ukraine and may hinder further progress in negotiations.
As BAKU.WS reports, this is according to CNN citing a high-ranking Kyiv official.
First of all, it concerns the "delicate issue" of transferring territories in Donbas, including the so-called Ukrainian "belt of fortresses." Another point is the "controversial proposal" to limit the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the source said.
The demand for Ukraine to abandon NATO membership is also unacceptable. Such a concession would be a "bad precedent" and give Russia veto power over the military alliance, the source believes.
According to CNN, "all three points under discussion are also sensitive and long-standing 'red lines' for Ukraine," where officially abandoning any of them is a serious challenge, potentially fraught with significant risks for Ukrainian leaders who attempt to do so.
Prior to this, US President Donald Trump stated that Russia is "making concessions" in negotiations on Ukraine and is ready to discuss the cessation of hostilities and relinquish control over large territories. He reported that his special envoy Steven Witkoff will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week.
