Scientists have discovered when Venice will finally sink underwater
World 44

Venice, the pearl of world architecture and culture, may completely go underwater by 2150. This alarming conclusion was reached by researchers who developed a model of possible flooding of the famous city on water, reports the news channel RAI News 24.

According to the scientific research data, even modern protective barrier systems "Moses," installed in the Venetian lagoon specifically to prevent flooding, will be powerless against the approaching water element. Scientists conducted detailed modeling of flooding scenarios for three time points: 2050, 2100, and 2150.

As the TV channel reports, the most dramatic consequences are expected by the middle of the 22nd century. In the worst-case scenario, water could engulf an area from 139 to 226 square kilometers.

"Without additional protective measures, this will lead to flooding and significant damage to both the local population and Venice's cultural heritage," scientists warn.

Experts point out that among the main causes of the impending catastrophe are global climate change and the intensifying effect of "high water."

The "high water" phenomenon, characteristic of the island part of Venice, is caused by sea tides that directly depend on the lunar cycle, and is becoming increasingly destructive to the ancient city each year.
