Musk declared Europe is dying out

American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk expressed serious concern about the future of the European continent due to critically low birth rates, reports RT.
In his account on the social network X, the businessman reacted to alarming statistics from Scotland, where in the first half of 2025, the number of deaths exceeded births by a whole 34%.
"If the birth rate does not return to at least replacement level, Europe will die out," Musk stated in his comment.
Specialists note that for simple population replacement, a fertility rate of 2.1 children per woman is necessary. At the same time, a number of scientists believe that for the long-term survival of the population, this indicator should be even higher - about 2.7 children per woman.
The current situation in Europe looks depressing: in England and European Union countries, the fertility rate has fallen to 1.4, and in Scotland this indicator is even lower - only 1.3, which is a historic minimum.
Musk himself, being the father of at least 14 children, actively supports research in the field of demography, allocating millions to this cause. He regularly draws public attention to the problem of declining birth rates in Europe and is convinced that the demographic crisis presents "a much greater risk to civilization" than climate change.
According to UN data, the global trend of declining birth rates has been observed for more than half a century. In 2024, the global average was about 2.2 births per woman, which is significantly lower compared to 5 children in the 1970s and 3.3 in the 1990s.
