Media: White House Press Secretary fired after five days on the job
White House Press Secretary Kathy Zacharia was fired less than a week after starting in the position.
This is reported by The New York Times, citing three sources.
Zacharia held only one briefing, which lasted about 15 minutes. After the performance, which drew sharp criticism from journalists, questions about her professional competence immediately arose.
The press secretary, the publication notes, listed Donald Trump's achievements, read from a script, and answered only three questions. Media also noted her stiffness and lack of eye contact.
Earlier, President Trump told journalists that he urged Zacharia to "reconsider" her decision to work in the position. According to Trump, he also asked her: "Kathy, do you need this? I don't think you need this."
The MS NOW television channel reported, citing a representative of the American administration, that the White House was dissatisfied with the new press secretary's first briefing and acknowledged the possibility of her being fired soon.
