CENTCOM denied IRGC claims about the Strait of Hormuz
Iran claims that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of its armed forces, but the US refutes this claim.
As reported by Tasnim, the commander of Iran's army, Lieutenant General Amir Hatami, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under Tehran's control.
"Thanks to the full control exercised by the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), no enemy vessel has been able to enter the maritime borders of the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM), in turn, refuted on the social network X the claims spread by Iran over the past 24 hours.
"The IRGC continues to spread false claims about controlling the Strait of Hormuz. The United States and its regional partners control the strait, and commercial vessels continue to transit despite the IRGC's unwarranted aggression," the statement said.
The IRGC's claim that a Singapore-flagged container ship struck a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday was also refuted.
"This is a lie. The civilian container vessel M/V GFS Pride was struck by an IRGC projectile. Despite the attack, commercial vessels continue to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Over the past 24 hours, more than 40 vessels have transited through it," CENTCOM clarified.
The US also did not confirm the IRGC's claim of killing hundreds of American servicemembers in Jordan.
"In July, three American servicemembers were killed in combat when partner forces defended against Iranian attacks. We honor the memory of all American servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice and represent the best of America," the statement said.
