Media: CIA Director is visiting Moscow

The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, John Ratcliffe, is in Moscow for the purpose of meeting with Russian officials.

Sources reported this to CBS News.

Information about the visit emerged after a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III military transport aircraft, as well as a motorcade of American diplomats, were spotted at one of Moscow's airports.

Neither Moscow nor Washington has yet commented on the identity of the American official present in Russia or the purposes of the visit. The CIA also did not provide any comments.

As CBS News notes, this is presumably the first known visit by Ratcliffe to Russia since his appointment as CIA Director. At the same time, the outlet writes that Ratcliffe has maintained contacts with Russian intelligence leaders.
